Geek Speak: 12 Online Tools to Be Thankful For


Here at In10sity we are thankful for our many blessings, may it be wonderful customers, easy to use content management systems, anything pumpkin flavored...or even amazing free online tools.  Being the kindhearted group we are, we want to share some of our favorite online tools that we think will be most useful for you!  Heck, here's a virtual pumpkin muffin for you to enjoy with your coffee while you skim through (no worries...the muffin's fat free and organic).  Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

On with the list:


Because who loves super long URLs?  Nobody!  Especially not Twitter. is the a simple and popular URL shortener.  Use it to shorten a link to a few characters.  You can quickly shorten a link to a few characters which can come in handy on sites such as Twitter which limit messages to 140 characters. 


Because you just need a quick screenshot for that presentation. gives you the option to quickly snap a screenshot of any web page and download it in a variety of sizes.

3. Survey Monkey

Because your boss wants to get a beat on customer satisfaction.
Use Survey Monkey to create free online surveys, and email the link out to your customers. Then, just sit back and relax while the data is gathered and made available to you.

4. The Readability Test Tool

Because sometimes you need a double check.
Use this quick tool to test the readability of your text and compare the results to your target audience.

Here is an example of the type of results you might see for a web page:
  • This page has an average grade level of about 9.
  • It should be easily understood by 14 to 15 year olds.

5. Content Idea Generator

Because writer's block is real!!!
To use this tool, you enter keywords, and content ideas are generated.  If nothing else, this tool in is good for comic relief....and who knows, you might end up with a little inspiration.

6. Pablo

Because you want your Facebook posts to look professional, but you don't have an in-house graphics department.
Use this handy tool to create professional looking images for your social media posts by uploading your own images (or their stock images) and adding your own text to their templates specifically made for social media use.

The wayback machine gives you the option to view how a website used to look in years past.  Want to see what your website looked like in October of 2009?  No problem!  Granted, some images may be missing due to ancient technology, but it can give you a pretty good idea of your online presence over the years.


Because you want to see if your website is winning the popularity contest. lets you enter a website URL to see its ranking in the the US and in the world.  They are ranked based on popularity, and you can also see a three month trend that shows which websites are growing. 

Important Note: Lower rankings are better with these guys.  For example, Twitter may be ranked 10th because Alexa estimates that it is the tenth most visited website in the world. 


Because your website is loading slowly, but you think it's just your bad internet connection. is a quick way to test the speed of your internet connection.  While some may argue that online speed tests are not guaranteed to be accurate, they might be helpful when you are trying to determine how well your Internet Service Provider is doing.

11. Google Snippet Optimizer

Because you used your CMS to set up your metadata, and you want to see how you did.
This online tool lets you check to see how your site will look in Google’s search results.

12. MailChimp

Because you don't have a budget for email marketing just yet.
You don't have to miss out on email marketing just because you don't have the budget for a monthly subscription.  MailChimp offers a free plan for up to 2,000 subscribers and 12,000 emails per month.  With built-in signup forms and email design templates, building up a subscriber list and sharing your marketing message via email has never been easier.
