With a website that had not seen any major design updates in nearly four years, the look and feel of the site was no longer up to par with current web design standards, and the website navigation had become a bit chaotic as pages were added to accommodate the inevitable changes of the Health System over time. Additionally, the process of editing the website in their outdated content management system was limited and had become difficult to manage.
Housing content for the hospital, foundation, physician practices, and much more, the Brazosport Regional Health System website had a lot of valuable information and resources to offer, but it needed a little boost to reach its full potential.
To allow for better organization of content, updated functionality, and improved brand awareness for each entity, a refresh was in order for the main site as well as a suite of sister micro-sites for the foundation and a few specialty practice locations. Beginning with an on-site project kick-off meeting, In10sity worked with Brazosport Regional Health System to reorganize the navigation and home page layout to better categorize their offering and display information in a more user-friendly manner. Keeping the main navigation to a concise list of six items helped provide prominence for the more significant sections of the website to easily funnel users to the exact information needed.
This more focused navigation also increases the likelihood for search engines to find Brazosport Regional for these more prominent categories by giving more “power” to a few items rather than diluting the link authority by asking the search engines to recognize their site for too many categories of information.
Moving on to the updated features and functionality, the new design also included a mobile responsive layout for those web users viewing on the go with their smart phones and tablets. Keeping the balance between usability and ease of editing in check, mega menus are used in place of the dreaded, never-ending drop down menus. Additionally, spotlight callouts and clear calls to action for new and important items like patient portal, physician search and donations are also accounted for on the home page and easily edited in the website content management system, inPower CMS™.
Providing further consistency across Brazosport Regional’s digital marketing efforts, In10sity was pleased to integrate five microsites with the new design and inPower CMS as well. The Brazosport Family Medicine and Brazosport Urgent Care sites are still in the works, but the Health Foundation, Gastroenterology of South Texas, and Bone and Joint Clinic of Lake Jackson microsites are already live and ready for you to check out!
